Folk n fell 2024: SOLd out

Three outstanding folk musicians lead a unique weekend of folk music, song and banter with time for walking.

A mixed weekend of ensemble playing, singing, instrumental tuition and informal sessions with time for fell walking too. 

For FolknFell 2024, we have entered into partnership with a fabulous new venue to deliver our usual blend of great tuition and the great outdoors. Higham Hall is a continuing education centre close to Bassenthwaite Lake that has been recently refurbished and offers great accommodation choices, including ensuite and/or shared rooms as options, depending on your requirements. It has a few camper van hook ups too and non-residential places for those who prefer to find their own accommodation. All at very reasonable prices. The food is excellent too and there are great walks available.

It’s a great way to enjoy yourself, learn some new material and meet new friends.

It begins early evening Friday, finishing Sunday around 5pm. We are delighted to have as our tutors...

• Dave Wood, who can provide tuition in Guitar, Ukulele and Voice is widely regarded as one of the leading guitarists on the folk scene today due to his innovative, rhythmical accompaniment style. (Tom McConville, Malinky, Nightfall).
• Eleanor Mooney is a singer, performer and community musician specialising in group vocal work.  She performs and works with regional and national organisations including Royal Northern Sinfonia and The Glasshouse (Sage Gateshead) and has been MD of Caedmon Choir, Gateshead since 2007. Her band FIKA in which she plays Ukulele and sings have their first album planned for 2024.
• Tim Dalling, Accordionist, director, entertainer and songwriter extraordinaire (Old/New Rope String Band, The Aanimals) has been working as a performer, musician, director and successfully avoiding real jobs since he left Glasgow School of Art in 1982.  He regularly leads a Songwriting group at the Globe Newcastle.

Places at FolknFell are limited and can only be booked directly via Higham Hall's web site, so if you are joining us, there's a form on that web site you need to complete and then pay your deposit to Higham Hall to secure your place. 

We expect around 30 participants . There will be a mixture of classes, performance and steady sessions. The three classes will be in mixed ensembles each doing something different with each tutor including voices as well as mixed instruments. Don’t worry if you can’t sing well because there will be plenty of playing. Likewise, there will be good opportunities for singers to shine. We welcome a wide range of acoustic instruments.
